Austin Spain is entering his 2nd year as the head girls basketball coach at New Home. Coach Spain is a graduate of Dumas High School, earning salutatorian honors of his class. He went on to attend Texas Tech University, graduating in 2012.

Coach Spain began his coaching career at Dumas High School, where he spent eight years coaching wrestling, track, boys’ basketball and head girls’ basketball. He then joined the Lubbock-Cooper girls basketball program as an assistant coach for four years, being involved in two state tournament appearances before coming to New Home.

Coach Spain and his wife Candice have been married for 12 years. They have two children — a daughter in third grade and a son in kindergarten.

Coach Spain is assisted by Ethan Aycock and Kaylee Pickett.

Meet The Coach

 

Koby Abney is entering his 13th year as the head basketball coach at New Home High School and his 30th year in public education.   Prior to New Home he was head coach at Garden City and Whitharral, and an assistant at San Antonio Alamo Heights and San Antonio John F Kennedy.  

Coach Abney is married to his wife Marla and has three sons and three daughter in laws, two daughters and two grandchildren.

Coach Abney is assisted by Braeden Jones, who coaches the JV and heads up the Junior High program, and Tanner Mudd, who coaches the Freshman team.
