Students Today, Leaders Tomorrow, LEOPARDS FOREVER!

Safety & Security

New Home Safety & Security

The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. New Home ISD maintains layered security practices that include secure entry procedures and visitor check-in, daily exterior door sweeps, regular emergency drills (fire, evacuation, shelter, and lockdown), and ongoing staff training. We partner closely with local law enforcement and our district Safety and Security Committee to review data, refine protocols, and meet all state requirements, including TEA/Texas School Safety Center audits. Families are encouraged to report concerns directly to campus administration or the district office so we can respond quickly. New Home ISD is committed to a safe, prepared, and welcoming learning environment for every Leopard.

Meet Chief Garza

A man with a gray beard smiles, wearing a red polo shirt.

Chief Jacob Garza serves as the Chief of Police for the New Home ISD Police Department,
bringing over 15 years of dedicated law enforcement experience. A graduate of Lamesa High
School, Chief Garza attended Sul Ross State University and later earned his Texas Peace Officer
License through the South Plains College Police Academy.

Chief Garza began his career with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, where he rose to the
rank of Corporal. He then served as a School Resource Officer with the Lamesa Police
Department before joining Frenship ISD Police Department, where he spent six years as a
campus police officer. His commitment to school safety and community partnerships led to his
nomination and appointment as the lone candidate for Chief of Police at New Home ISD.

Throughout his career, Chief Garza has earned his Advanced Peace Officer License and is
currently working toward his Master Peace Officer License. He has completed numerous
specialized trainings, including ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response
Training Level 1), SORD (Single Officer Rapid Deployment), and ERASE (Exterior Response to
Active Shooter Events). He has also served as Vice President of the Texas Association of School
Resource Officers and is an active member of both the South Plains Police Chiefs Association
and the Texas Police Chiefs Association.

Chief Garza believes his calling lies in serving school communities—providing a safe and secure
environment where students can thrive and staff can teach with confidence. He is passionate
about being a positive role model for students and building strong connections with staff,
parents, and the community. His goal is to lead with pride, professionalism, and a steadfast
commitment to protecting and serving the New Home ISD family.
